Hi guys 🙂 It's Gea from Hobbii and today we're gonna solve an important mystery.
We're gonna answer the biggest question of all! How you change colors at the end of the row, in the middle of the row and when you're working in the round.
So either way you are covered.
As always you can change the subtitles and the speed of this video by clicking the settings below.
And while you are at it, you can also click the subscribe button and the notification button so that you don't miss out on all the fun.
For your information I'm using “Wool Power Big” from Happy Sheep in color “Rose Pink” #13.
and “Silver Grey” #9.
I'm also using a 9 mm hook which is available on our website .
How to change colors at the end of the row: I went ahead and did a small sample piece already and I'm just coming to the end of the row.
I made it in sc stitches but this method can be used to whatever stitch you're using.
Work your way to the end of the row as you normally would but pay attention to the very last stitch here Insert hook and pull out a loop.
Now you got 2 loops on your hook.
The rule here is that you always leave the last 2 loops remaining on the hook when you change colors And this goes for whatever stitch you're making.
So now you got a half finished sc stitch but instead of finishing the stitch you will drop your work, grab the new color and make a little loop – remember to leave a tail.
Pick up your work and pull the new color through the 2 loops on your hook.
Cut off the original color but leave a tail and come back to your work.
Ch 1 Pull the tails tight so you get your stitches as close to the work as possible and place the tail in between the hook and the working yarn.
Ch 1 again and turn your work.
I'm gonna hold my tails on top here so that I can work them into the piece as we are going along.
This will save you so much weaving time – trust me! Now you just continue with sc stitches as you normally would and once you feel comfortable you can cut the end of the tails and tuck them tight in.
How to change color in the middle of therow: first off it's important to remember that we always change color in the stitch before we actually need the change of color.
So let's say we want to make a color change in the 5th stitch of the row then we actually start the change in the 4th stitch.
Once you get to the 4th stitch you will insert hook and pull out a loop.
Now you got 2 loops on your hook Remember the rule: You always leave the last 2 loops remaining on the hook.
So instead of finishing the stitch you will: drop your work, grab the new color and make a little loop (remember to leave a tail) Pick up your work and pull the new colorthrough the 2 loops on your hook.
Sometimes you will need to keep theoriginal color attached but if not, you can just cut it.
I'm gonna leave it because I want to change colors again, just to show you.
Now, come back to your work.
Now I'll do my first stitch with the new color and this would be my 5th stitch.
Continue with sc stitches as you normally would.
If you need to change color again you simply switch back to the original working yarn you kept from before.
Once you feel comfortable you can cut the end of the tails and tuck them tight in.
How to change colors when you're working in the round: Changing colors in the round is kind of similar to the techniques I showed you earlier.
We still have to change colors in the stitch before we actually need to change the color.
So once you get to that stitch you will:insert hook and pull out a loop now you've got 2 loops on your hook.
Grab the new color and make a little loop (remember to leave a tale) Pick up your work and pull the new color through the 2 loops on your hook.
Cut the original color but leave a tail.
And come back to your work.
Pull the tails tight so you get your stitches as close to the work as possible.
To stop the new color from looking quite so obvious you can make a slip stitch into the next stitch.
And now you just continue what a singlecrochet stitches as you normally would.
Once you feel comfortable you cancut the end of the tails and tuck them tight in.
Alright guys that was all for me.
Gea from Hobbii.
See you next time :-).
