(intense music) – Remember when you were a kid and you finally got to throw your Legos onto the carpeted living roomto build something awesome alright, and parents didn'thave a hernia about it? I don't know what yourparents, my parents, they never like messes.
I wasnever allowed to make a mess so I don't really knowif that's true or not.
Or maybe you had theLincoln Logs.
Either way you had this big ol' projectidea on what you were actually going to build untilyou to about five minutes into it and you eventually gaveup to make some basic (beep) Minecraft lookin' house withlike a one by six red Lego that was sticking out of the top middle.
And apparently thatwas a missile launcher.
That was your creative freedom.
But we both know that youwere completely out of ideas.
I'm Alex, Alex@FI on Instagram and today we're gonna be talking about how starting a car build ispretty much the same thing as your inner 10 year old trying to build something with Legos andwhat you can actually do to start your car build on the right foot.
And of course if you'relookin' for aftermarket ah rolly boys, aftermarkettraction pathers or aftermarket suspensiongoey upy downies, you want to be sure tocheck us out over at fitmentindustries.
com, wherewe literally have everything including 0% financing soyou can get your builds started now, not have topay for it until summer actually here and you can gooutside and you can socialize.
But at the end of the dayall right you can go check out the gallery to, spend some time on there, drool a little bit I don'tknow.
Then go out finish your project build you knowyou have to.
By the way wash your hands don't touch your face.
Starting your car build isreally easy finishing it sucks, its terrible all rightit can be not a fun time.
The reasons our parentshated those Lego's is exactly why our garage's look theway they do in the middle of a build, and usuallyforever an absolute mess.
When you start your car buildthe right way, the first thing you're going to do isstart small okay.
Too many go for the star, Death StarLego set when they should have just bought the 100 piecegreat value space ship instead that was like $5.
99.
Startingout with small projects on the build is gonna bethe best way to get people or yourself to learn aboutwhat you're getting yourself into, because spoiler alertevery car build has some sort of surprise of some kindno matter where you start.
Maybe you strip theold chassis down right? All PG-13 like, Madonnaplaying in the background.
You're getting sensualwith the shifter cable and all the sudden it popsout right? A half shaft, that's JB welded together, oh but it doesn't stop there bud, you pull your head upto get away from it all cause you're just surprised atwhat's going on and your head hits the rear view mirroronly for it to fall down.
Now you gotta rear view mirrorthat you gotta fix and JB welded half shaft.
You getscared so you run, you pull on the no name steering wheelthat was given to you with the car that you managed to boltup there, and you end up bending the steering wheel andnow you're scarred for life.
I really have no idea whatmental image you're supposed to get painted with that storybut welcome to quarantine.
Actually starting your carbuild slowly okay is the most important way to go aboutit.
You wanna package certain bolts away, you wanna makesure you label things.
Do small projects first soyou don't get overwhelmed, when you get overwhelmedyou just end up giving up.
Most popular builds rightnow are BRZ's, FR-S', 350z's, 370z's, Genesis', Civic's the new generation, Subaru's, and S-Chassis' and even your good old Volkswagon's.
Each one of these cars havetremendous communities, use them.
Starting a car buildthe right way is learning about what's already outthere before making the same mistakes other peoplehave done.
There's nothing more agitating than trying toreinstall a soft top on a Miata only to find out after 16hours that there's a trick to finagling the rain trimpieces without needing six people and Hercules.
If youjust went out to the forums and asked they would havetold you, I made that mistake.
Rookies in a specific scenecan always feel a little bit over burdened when jumpinginto a new forum or group page and while there's always gonnabe a few people that spend more time online than theydo enjoying life and they're gonna give you a hard time, most people will want to help teach and educate.
Forum's and groups are huge and can help with partselection, installation, horror stories, or tips andtricks prior to installing whatever it is that you're gonna install.
Don't judge my couch okay, it's a really nice couch.
Z forums saved my life moretimes than I can count from losing what was left of myhair, all right.
The Datsun pretty much built on coffeeand other people's ideas because I couldn't figure itout.
When the builds actually start happening though andthings are moving life is good.
The Death Star Lego build isfinally starting to look like a crude bowling ball which is nice.
And as you start into yourcar build you'll find yourself in the inevitable situation”while I'm in here I should” every time.
There's no singleperson in the world that doesn't think that whenthey start their car build they're not gonna have that thought, “Well I'm in there ya know Iprobably should” or they have a buddy that's there doingabsolutely nothing but saying while you're in there you shoulddo this, you should switch out the cam, install newlifters, swap out the bushes, get new pullovers From fitmentindustries.
Why is my friend talkinglike this, I don't know.
Power coat the sub framemaybe you should just, maybe one more Doritoin here wouldn't hurt.
And that happens literallyall the time it never ends, even if you are going for themore power babes all right.
You're gonna wanna stickto a plan otherwise the car will just, it'll just never be finished bud and that is where a logic project carsjust end up just staying, just kaput all right itslike Half-Life 3 all over again, it's just not a good time.
Stick to a plan and onlydeviate slightly if there's a very small chance it'll delayyou from enjoying the car.
These car builds are fun butthey can turn into a little bit of like a uh bitter guacamoleif they sit in the garage and take nothing but fundswithout remorse which happens easily when you're divinghead first into a project and you fall for the old trap of ” While I'm in there I should”because yeah while you're in there there's a lot ofthings you could do, just tear it apart for the 17th time todo it.
This can lead to being peer pressured into goinginto massive expensive name brand stuff because they that'sjust how the world works.
Want wheels, they better be 3piece front whip carbon fiber or bust exhaust if it aintT60/61 kryptonite metal with forged carbon it'strash, don't fall for it.
When starting your buildkeep an eye on all brands and get the stuff that'sright for you and your build at the time.
Trust me Iwould love TE 37's on every single car I could possiblyown but you know sometimes I would just rather take themoney to buy those wheels and buy an like an actualwhole car for the same price and just get some coaningsinstead.
It's just how she goes and that's okay, just makesure you understand what your budget is as you go into it.
But as your actually startingyour build and figuring out the ropes of what to do andwhat not to do, what to buy and what not to buy and stayfocused.
Don't forget to share the build now Instagram, Facebook groups, YouTube, All that stuff and even ourown gallery once you pick up some aftermarket wheel's andtires.
Sharing your build is actually a ton of fun, not only the end product but how you're gettingalong with the whole thing because of what allows you to share your project with others.
Now peoplecan become a little angry that a car is ” Built for IG”and we always say just build it for yourself bud it'syour (beep) box or it's your nice build whatever itis that you wanna call it but build it for you, share it with everyone.
Share the car because younever know what's gonna happen when you do that, that's hownew communities form and that's how you meet awesome peopleand like awesome connections.
That's how you're able tojust get in there and share what your doing and a lot ofpeople enjoy progress builds much more than just asimple before and after.
After all its always helpfulwhen you have a couple two tree people to help you withthe old iron can in the garage that tried seducing you thatone other time with a broken half shaft.
People are whatmake builds even more fun, doing it solo while you can do itjust makes it a little bit more tough.
So what was a mistakeyou made when you started your first build? We all have them.
Okay let us know below andof course if you're looking for aftermarket wheels, tires, or suspension be sure to check us out over atfitmentindustries.
