hey what's up what's up this is Sherisse the afropunk entrepreneur coming at you and today i want to give you a screaming frog tutorial and overview let's do it [Music] [Music] so hey how you doing so my name is Sherisse I am the afropunk entrepreneur if you're new
to my channel I'm basically an affiliate marketer a blogger and electric bassist yeah I'm Dyslexic with it where am I there's a guitar over there this is just look as you could tell right there I play on Broadway and all this other stuff but most importantly I'm an
SEO and I want to create a tutorial for screaming frog because if you're like me you first someone told you to download screaming frog maybe you're learning a little bit about SEO and you're like and you download a screaming frog and you're looking at it and you're like
what the hell is this if there's a lot of stuff on the screen and I ended up you should really happen to dive in and take a little course and just make a lot of notes to actually make some sense of screaming frog so I want to do
the same for you guys and just kind of walk you through what screaming frog can do if you don't know it's basically a tool to a lie it's it's basically an SEO spider and it's going to allow you move move this off the screen it's going to allow
you to just crawl your website in the same way that a Google spider or group of crawler does so I'm going to cut this video now so that you I can remove my mug I just want you guys to know what I look like and all this other
stuff but there's gonna be some stuff going on in this part of the screen in screaming frog so I wanted I don't want to take up any real estate so I'm gonna cut the video and I'm gonna come back and it's just could be my screen and my
voice and I'm gonna talk to you about some things that screaming frog does and kind of walk you through the interface a little bit up so let's go let's go do this okay so uh basically we're in screaming frog now if you want to get to screaming frog
basically you have to go to screaming frog I believe the site is based in the UK I'm gonna drop a link below to to the website where you can download this this so there's a free version which is what I'm using now but I'm gonna have to go
ahead and upgrade to the paid version pretty soon because I'm starting to get a few clients I have three clients now so it's but it's been kind of a little bit of a journey to me becoming a you know it SEO a pro SEO or whatever but I'm
at the point now where I need to do the paid version but I'm going to do this to se it there I'm gonna do this tutorial only using the free version and we're kind of gonna go from there so I'm gonna leave the website below so you can
go and grab it it's free just a few things to know basically it helps you I'm just gonna kind of show you the features of it and explain to you why I use it so number one it definitely helps you find broken links it shows you where your
redirects are you know and all this other stuff basically it'll generate a sitemap for you it'll from reviewed your robots there's integration with Google Analytics if you have the paid version that's not in the free version so there's other features so if you if you want to know
the the differences between the page and the the free version you can just go to the website and not drop that below and you can kind of look at it basically for my purposes I can almost get away with the free version but the things that I want
I want to be able to integrate my Google Analytics from my own blog they ever chrome gotcha preneur tom and i want to be able to link majestic and i also want to be able to link a at Refs and you can only do that if you have
the paid version so the paid version is a hundred and forty nine euros so i'm an american if you can't tell by the accident so that's something like a hundred and fifty seven or something like that for me out you have to use that for wherever you are
so anyway i want to just dive into this so let's pretend that you've hit the download button and you have the option to be on Windows or a Mac or I think Thembu to and I think also lettings so pretty much there's a there's something for everybody so
once we're in there let me get rid of all this stuff I always have like a million things going on on my computer so anyway I'm gonna open up screaming frog right now it's already open and I'm going to do just kind of an audit I'm gonna put
in the URL of my website so that you can kind of see just the general process let me open this up but a screaming frog is already open and once that once I put that in then it's going to run a scan and awed it and then I'll
be able to kind of dive into the content from there so hey guys so we're inside screaming frog right now I'm gonna go ahead and throw in the URL of my blog and then we'll kind of just go from there an excuse like I said the cutting of
the video like I said there was a computer was freezing and I always have like a million browsers open and I used two different types of browsers and things were just like I've really just clean out my computer but I want to get this video out because I've
been really getting into screaming frog and I remember what it was like to be told like get screaming frog you know you can audit your site and log in you know opening up this app and being like even this is there's so much stuff going on so I
basically you want to show you some things that you guys will be able to kind of find and screaming frog and I don't want the new I don't want the new version and basically what it does so I'm just gonna open up all the menus I'm gonna open
up all the pull downs and just kind of show you kind of what it does right now we're at 64 percent it'll just take a minute the software is pretty fast itself and again keep in mind I'm on the free version so I can only get in 500
URLs my blog is not huge so it's not too much further beyond that but considering I'm getting clients now I'm definitely gonna need more than that so I'm gonna just let you know three things that you can use you can find using screaming frog very easily the first
thing is I'm finding duplicates any sort of duplicates you do not want duplicates because dude excuse me because Google does not want duplicate content and basically the more duplicate content in your on your site the more difficult it is to rank because Google is not sure which it
which is the you know which is the better version of it and I'm not gonna get into Canonical's and all this other stuff but I just want to show you basically how it works so we're going to talk about duplicates in a second but basically there's a filter
here you're gonna see all these tabs here at the top as I'm kind of going through these and each one of these tabs has its own filter and then also if you see on here on the right there's a whole menu and then there's a menu at the
bottom so this is why I was saying like when I first opened up screaming frog that I was doing all this SEO videos I was like then I don't know that I'm gonna be able to understand something that's has so many moving parts but the more that I
get into it the more of it I realize it's not as it's crazy it's it seems so I want to kind of share what I've learned with you and kind of go from there so the first thing that I do and this is just for me is I
go to the HTML because that's going to show me all the links that you know the bulk of the links like you know my blog posts and things like that so let's say I'm in the HTML you could you can get this to there like that just to
show you where I came from this is all in the eternal internal tab I can either click HTML here or I can go from here and just do the HTML pull pulled out so you have two different ways of getting to the same thing so basically from here
on on this right this right side here this right side is your friend because this right side is basically gonna tell you everything that's here but it's here I know this sounds crazy but basically like screaming frog is really good at pointing out problems so basically it's gonna
have an internal section external protocol so everything that's here and these pull in these menus here these these tabs here is also here so things like in this page title section like I was explaining to you that you can find duplicates that's here duplicate something over 65 characters
like your titles shouldn't be over 65 characters or shouldn't be below 30 or even 55 characters so you can basically isolate content like that so this section here is this would be pointing out problems that makes any sense to you your medical descriptions you don't want to have
duplicates you don't want to have over hundred fifty six you don't want to have below seventy and you don't want have all be look the pixels I don't really understand all that so I'm not going to pretend to be some super goo yeah guru with that the basically
is going to show your h1 h2 again as I'm saying everything that's here at the top is also here but this is like this side here on the right is what I prefer to look at but just to show you I want to show you the everything that
this can do so let's just go from internal so say if I click on this link it's going to tell me the status whether it's a regular length you know that's there's no problems 200 or whether there's a 301 redirect or a 404 page so that's that if
I want to isolate my problems problems meaning like 404 404 codes or I thought I want to find redirects in 301 redirects I can find them here so response codes is the status code that's the same thing so basically internal let's say that I click I'm gonna click
my funnel eyes review that's a 200 so that's there's nothing wrong with that so I can grab this bottom part here and I can also see just to kind of point out to you that everything that if I was going to expand address status title one title to
sorry title one length pixel status content title everything that I'm scrolling that's basically what this is so once I click on this all this data that's in this populates down here and like I said I want to do this video because there's a bunch of different ways to
get to the same data and I want to show you that so I'm gonna pull this down and reduce that let's say I'll do I'm just going to do the top and then we're kind of going from there so it's my internal links these are all my internal
links if that know obviously that's self-explanatory my external links is everything that I'm linking out to that's including you know any sort of you know my head gifts on my site I have Google+ links I'm linking out to my Google+ links I'm linking out to my Facebook page
I'm looking out to Neil Patel I'm like everything that's extra my external links are showing up here and if I want to organize them I can just hit status code and then also everything that's good it's my 200 codes and their fine status is okay but if I
want to isolate you know all these other errors in a 302 redirect 307 404 or 999 affricate what that is actually someone comment below what that is I forget what it is but I guess it's access that I don't know what that means but the point is so
protocol yeah I don't mess with that too much so I'm not gonna act like I know what response codes is more of this status codes here so let's say I want let's say I was I was audited a client site and I want to find out wherever there
301 redirects and there's plenty of tools that you can use to find those something like a H ref store whatever which I also which is a paid tool but if you're just starting out you might not have that so something like response codes and organizing by status code
200 you're fine you want to get to towards the bottom where you're going to start finding these are all redirects and these are these are good candidates for obviously going into your HTA access file which is gonna be another video and do all these redirects so I basically
just want to kind of show you what this what this tool can do because for a free tool it's pretty badass you are I don't know what that stands for I've treated as URL I don't know what the I stands for again someone can comment below I'm not
gonna act like I know what it is but the point is like I interpret these as all the URLs that are available so on my site there's a hundred and sixty nine URLs and if you see a hundred you know in here and also if you go to
a URI there's 169 and I believe if I go to the top internal I have a hundred and sixty-nine internal links so they're kind of all related but it's just kind of you had like I said you have multiple ways of look at the same data you can
look at it from here you can look at it from on the right and you can look at it from down below so you are at page titles is good because page title is you you can do things like fine page titles that are duplicate so let's say
like I definitely need to you know I've been I need to do an audit of my site like I have two pages that are my RSS feed I have about me that's a duplicate because I you know created my site and then I went and did any and
got an SSL certificate to make myself secure so I have a bunch of stuff that's like the s HTTP in the HTTPS version that I need to fix and these are things that I've been like neglecting I just don't feel like doing it but it's this is what
you can find if you find duplicates as I was mentioning at the beginning of the video so you can also find you don't want your cat you don't want your titles to be over 65 characters but you don't want them to be under 30 or even 55 so
let's say like none day these are pages that I would want but let's say it was a page that had a bunch of content on it I would not want a title tag that was under 30 or even under 55 characters you know because that's even you're not
you're wasting the space basically you're wasting space that you could use to op to optimize your keywords Meta Description is similar you can basically go and see what some duplicate so I'll show you left my FCO glossary if you want if you don't believe you know I'm so
I'm so growing as an SEO whatever but if you type in SEO girl glossary 2018 or 2019 I still believe I'm on the first page the Afro an entrepreneur I think I'm like 4 or 5 which is for someone who's been only doing SEO a year like I'm
really really excited to get there and all this stuff that I'm working it I know as an SEO it's like there's so much kind of nerdy stuff like this that it can be overwhelming but I'm kind of here to just show you guys when I'm learning and kind
of teach and show you as I'm learning because you know I don't want to say that I'm SEO Pro yet but I'm getting that I want to be able to share what I've been learning as I learn it with you guys you can learn alongside me so again
Meta Description you can search for duplicates over a hundred fifty six characters below 170 these pixels I don't know exactly what that means I think it's the pages like this the size of the actual page but I'm not sure so I'm not gonna meta keywords are not a
factor anymore just in case you didn't know screaming frog has been around for a while so I kind of imagine this is kind of a holdover from older versions when meta keywords were a thing but just in case you did no meta keywords are not a thing anymore
it's not a ranking factor so you can use them in something like a plugin like use will ask you to use them but you don't have to something like your h1 and h2 tags so h1 tags we again have the ability to find missing h1 tags like I
don't need those for the feed duplicates I have a bunch of duplicates that I need to clean up on my blog and some of the stuff I can actually just kind of delete like again I have an HTTP HTTP and HTTPS version of my contact page and all
like basically it's all my formal pages so over 70 characters yes I kind of went over the 70 characters thing and so this is so all stuff basically if you're a blogger or if you're running an audit for a client these are all things that you can need
to be cleaning up and exporting this is another thing that I'm gonna get into you can export all this data with the free version into like a an Excel spreadsheet or Google sheets kind of thing that way you could organize the data and I'll create another video about
that if you want to really get into that like SEO is like chase Reiner or run everyone Marino really will show you how to kind of get into like organizing that data better than I can but I will be trying to create videos like that from my own
as well so H 1 H 2 same thing missing duplicates 170 characters images it has all my basically all my images here they're gonna tell me that whether it's an image or a gif or JPEG or PNG they're gonna give me the size they're gonna give me you
know the amount of image links and can I scroll over no directives I don't know what that is so I'm not gonna whatever HRE I don't know again I'm gonna show you guys what I know and then I'm gonna be honest with the stuff that I don't know
like I don't know what this this is again drop a comment if you know what that is so these tabs only go to this spot here but there's more of it you can and that you can add Ajax custom analytics and Alixe is something that if I was
going to connect my Google Analytics I could do so search console is another thing if I had search console connected I could do it but I can't in link metrics so that's basically it for this top thing and we've already talked about this thing here basically I want
to also show you let me just go to extreme go to an internal link let me just find something that's actually gonna go to HTML because that's all the sites that actually have content I'm gonna go to my funnel eyes review so now that I'm down here at
the bottom this little graphic here is showing me the you know the percentages of HTML Javascript CSS images you got I got it in this little kind of cute little graphic so I'm gonna take this arrow and I'm gonna scroll up and basically now I'm gonna show you
what these bottom lengths sing these bottom button to do so this is your info this button down here I can't can I reach it this is like it's kind of competing with my with my listed column the screencasting stuff so I'm trying to let me make this a
little bit smaller sorry guys let me just do that okay so I'm gonna hit that and then I'm gonna hit the internal links I am links and so that's gonna give me all the internal links on that particular page and that's how you isolate so anything that I'm
doing up here let's say like this is my home page these are all the external links that are on that page and so on again I'm gonna go to let's say my blog so these are all external links sorry internal links and then the excuse me I'm sorry
it's very it's a little bit late here my voice is going so on my blog page these are my out go outgoing links and then image info of is not a whole image of the page so there's not much to see but the cool thing that the coolest
thing about this bottom feature is it's going to give you a SERP stupid if you don't know what SERP is surface search ended in a results page or whatever so this is basically showing you how it's going to appear in the Google search engine so my computer's is
freezing but in a second when that opened up then I'm going to be able to show you what it looks like in the SERPs and that's gonna give you that's gonna give you an exact reading of how it's gonna look in the SERPs so just a second I'm
probably gonna have to edit the video again because I got too much stuff going on okay so now we're back again I had to edit it because my computer is slowing down so I'm gonna open this up a little bit more but the point of the SERP preview
is the syrup snippet is that you're getting a preview so like when I hover over a link here like this SEO glossary like one I said that I'm ranking number four or five four on the first page this is basically showing me what it looks like so let's
say I was auditing my site and I realized that I have too many characters I can kind of go in here and basically get an idea of what it looks like so I don't wanna I don't want to make this thing too long but I did basically want
to continue to show you all of that's possible here so now I've done the time this this little part here I've done the right side I've done this image I've showed you down here so now I'm also going to show you the top menu so convenient thing configuration
is like a lot basically you have different different ways of approaching using this tool and it's better for me to skip to mode so I have a basically a way to do is use it as a spider a way to show everything as a list and a way
to also show everything as the cert results which is basically this so when I do a spider it's basically the same thing as that if it makes any sense robot text I don't have the paid version but if you did have the paid version you could generate a
robot that text file from your and and basically upload it to your content to your site let me close this out so configuration is basically all this other stuff like I said I'm still learning I'm still learning this the the speed is basically like if I had the
paid version it would be the speed that the screaming frog spiders crawl my site and like I said that because I'm using the free version I can't do any sort of accelerated version or whatever all this stuff down here is something I'm still learning so I'm not gonna
act like I know it but again like I said the mode is either spider our serve before I before I do that I also want to show you that you can see it two different ways you can see all this information here is either a list or as
even or it or as how you would see it like if you were in the back end of your your website so let's say I was in like I host all my stuff won't hurt and one site ground if I was to log into the site ground like
cPanel it's basically showing me this I don't like seeing it like that because I'm not a programmer and I'm not good but that kind of stuff so I prefer to see it but I just want to show you that you can see it this way so bulk export
is basically if I wanted to create a create a basically a spreadsheet of all my internal links I have the option to hit this export button here and then I can expel off the data but I can also export everything that's here all these tabs and a bulk
export but that's just for me that's just too much data to process I'm still learning how to organize my data but you can do that so you can do you know images anchor text all basically all this other stuff in the same way with reports you can create
all these different reports again I don't know what H are you flying again right in the comments if you know what it is I'm still learning but uh reports you can create a sitemap you can also create an images sitemap which if you don't know it's different from
the regular site map but images sitemap will make your images on your sites basically show up in the Google Image searches so I don't know if you ever prevent like let me just go go into like kittens whatever you guys know what I'm talking about basically like when
you go to a search and then you go to the images function there's a way to basically create a sitemap for your site that's indexing all of your you know alt text and alt tags and stuff like that so that's basically what the what the image one does
and I'm just I'm not gonna wait for that too it's gonna take forever but you guys know what I'm talking about sitemaps you can create a XML you can create an image and then obviously you can buy a license or whatever and as I say this of 100
and nine euros or euros or pounds whatever it was the point is I don't wanna make this video too long but I'm gonna try to keep up with this series and try to show you guys tutorials on all the tools that I'm using again I'm not claiming to
be an expert on all the stuff I'm still learning I just finished a course when screaming frog but I'll drop a link for that actually was helpful as a udemy course the guy kind of rambles a little bit but he actually you know got has some really good
tips on how to use screaming frog and I've been using it a bit to analyze my sites and now the sites of clients so it's definitely something that you want a tool that considering that is free you can definitely get by without having to pay a diamond without
having to pay for the the paid version but if you do decide to get the paid version then there's a couple little things that you can that you can do let me try to bring it up the search console there's a way and I'm trying to figure out
where it is there's a way to basically connect oh here it is your API so there's a way to connect Google Analytics Google search console console majestic eh refs and Moz so let's say you like it yes for me like I'm gonna go ahead and pay for app
it you know creative get a paid account that way I can keep track of my my site that for product entrepreneur and I can link up all my analytics search console majestic its roof tools that I pay for now Moz I don't pay for but I can probably
still connect my free count anyway so that's a big difference in the page version anyway so that's gonna be enough for my screaming frog tutorial like I said I'm still I'm trying to teach you guys as I'm learning them so I'm not claiming to be a screaming frog
expert at this point but I want to show you guys as I'm learning and hopefully feel free to drop any sort of comments or questions or concerns in the comments and I'll do the best that I can to to answer them if you're new to my channel and
