I believe Guardians have adopted the term”final death” for these such instances.
A competitor was defeated at the precise momentthe Light was stripped from him, their Ghost destroyed in the concussive blast from a pulsegrenade.
Welcome back guardians.
Today, I want to cover the lore book Trialsand Tribulations from Season of the Worhty.
As of writing this script, you can only unlockone lore entry per week by competing in Trials of Osiris, so you cannot read all of theseentries in game yet, however you can read them on Ishtar collective.
There doesn’t appear to be any game spoilersin the lore book, but if you are reading the entries each week in game, and would liketo wait, then… come back in 6 weeks.
AND yes, I have heard there are some dataminedfiles, but I won’t be covering that.
As usual, the artwork at the beginning ofthis video was provided by Gammatrap.
All patreon donations go towards paying Gammatrapfor his artwork.
A link to patreon and Gamma’s socials arebelow.
Also… I have been streaming a lot on twitch, ifyou are interested it will be the first link in the description.
This is myelin games and I hope you enjoythis latest Destiny 2 lore episode.
[INTRO]The story of the lighthouse starts with Osiris investigating the Vex spires on Mercury, andhis followers track him to Mercury after reading his teachings in the Last City.
Osiris, is not really impressed by his followers, and he is even annoyed that they are following him.
In a ploy to get the followers of Osiris tostop following him, he gives them a pointless tasks, a bit like how you would give a childa made-up task to get them to stop bothering you.
He asks them to stay on Mercury and watchthis place, and report back when he returns.
Have a listen to Chapter 2, postexilic, itreads, “I have no intention of staying here.
There are many constructs like this.
They all require my attention.
” “We will follow.
” “No, you won't.
I need to move quickly without burden or baggage, “Osiris pauses, the irony in casting these people away is not lost on him.
“But I can offer this.
Stay here.
Watch over this place.
I want to know everything you can discoverabout it.
Should anything occur, I will return.
” “We are at your service.
” She says, relieved, and bows to Osiris.
He grits his teeth.
“Unpack the ship.
” She beckons to the group.
“Yes, Sister Faora, ” one of the taller menreplies.
“If you find yourself lost in the darkness, we will be your lighthouse.
” Osiris nods.
Repressing a twinge of discomfort, he looksup to the spire.
So, the Cult of Osiris, led by Sister Faoracontinues to grow on Mercury and they attract new members, one of which is Brother Vance…well I guess he is not called Brother Vance yet, just Vance probably.
Like any good cult, they preach the same messageover and over, which essentially is that the traveler will not save us.
Chapter 3, the cult of personality reads, “Osiris tells us that the Darkness will return; that the Darkness will rise and choose itschampions.
Tells us that we must look beyond ourselves, beyond the City, if we are to combat such an evil.
The Traveler alone will not save us.
We are meant to save the Traveler and allof its people.
” The Cult of Osiris are essentially doomsdaypreppers and they believe they are helping Osiris prepare to face the second collapse.
Have a listen, “The spires of Mercury shall be filled with the glory of the Traveler.
Their Light will shine against the long shadowwhen Darkness reaches to snuff out the Sun.
Mercury will sing when day finds night, andwe will direct it.
These are Osiris's words, by his own hand.
We followed the prophet here to facilitatehis preparations for the second coming, whatever they may be.
” So, Brother vance is indoctrinated into theCult of Osiris led by sister Faora.
While on Mercury Brother Vance discovers hehas a special ability, for some reason he has connection with the Lighthouse spire.
Whenever a Guardian dies, Brother vance hearsthis mysterious tone.
Have a listen to Chapter 4, reflections, itreads, During the battle, something strange occurred.
Leanna was fighting near-insurmountable odds—basedon the amount of ammunition I heard discharged—and she was overcome.
Of course, she was resurrected by her Ghost, but the spire reacted.
There was a hum; the timbre consisted of twodistinct resonating tones—one smooth and warm, the other sharp and cold.
I thought I could have imagined it throughthe ringing of gunfire, but it was most certainly there.
It was almost imperceptible, and I thoughtmerely a coincidence until it happened again.
Eremac, the other Warlock and student of theDawnblade, was also temporarily disposed of.
The roar of the Colossus's slug launcher tearingthrough Eremac's flesh was unmistakable, but so was the tone that followed.
I have to know more.
We were able to withstand their incursion, but not without suffering a few casualties.
Now we must prepare for a funeral, but mythoughts are dominated by that mysterious tone.
Perhaps later, we can try to replicate it.
In order to explore this phenomenon, BrotherVance uses Thanatonautic warlocks, these are Warlocks who intentionally die to have visions.
With this experimentation it was obvious thatit was only Brother vance who had this connection with the lighthouse.
Have a listen; After explaining the phenomenon to Sister Faora, she has recruited the Warlocks to participatein thanatonautic death trials, in the hopes to recreate the hum and gain some clarityinto its purpose.
During these trials I had others accompanyme to the top of the spire to see if they too could hear the tones.
None were able to ascertain much—it seemsone would need to be musically inclined or have some training—and the weight has fallenon me to decipher the code.
I can't be sure of the intent, but I am certainof the cause.
Every time one of our Warlocks sacrificedthemselves, that same resonance would reverberate through my ears.
What does it mean, and what purpose does itserve? Is the spire, in fact, an instrument? I need to expand my research further and seewhat tones this structure is capable of producing.
And so the thanatonautic death trials leadsto another experiment… an experiment you all know… the Trials of Osiris.
Yes, this lore entry final confirms that theTrials of Osiris was created so that Brother Vance could investigate the mysterious tonescoming from the Lighthouse upon each guardian death.
Have a listen, Through countless debates, I have received permission to broaden the scope of my inquisition.
We have designs to organize something moreformal.
Launching under the guise of a tournamentor competition, we're leveraging contacts we've made to repurpose some weaponry as bounty.
The Guardians are already killing themselvesin Shaxx's Crucible.
I proposed making our version more exclusiveto draw out only the most adept fighters with the strongest connection to the Light.
We can make them purchase entry to furtherfund our studies.
They will literally pay for the privilegeto kill each other for our “rewards.
” I've stumbled onto something grand.
I will do whatever it takes to get the answersI seek, just as Osiris would.
Should he ever return, I imagine he will bequite proud and pleased to meet me.
One of the most significant discoveries thatBrother Vance makes during the Trials, is that the Lighthouse is connected with Guardiansthrough their light, almost like after each guardian death the lighthouse assists Ghostsin reviving the guardians.
Have a listen, Chapter 5 ambition reads, “I heard the Light bend.
The Lighthouse reached out to that Guardianwhen they died… and their Light reached back.
They are harmonious.
” Honestly, I really don’t understand whythere is a connection between guardians, the lighthouse, and the light.
Especially because in the beginning of thislore book, it seems like the transformation of mercury and the spires was influenced bythe Darkness, and of course the Vex.
Regardless, from there, Brother Vance takeshis findings to Mara Sov, queen of the Awoken, however, his meeting does not go as well asplanned, as it seems Mara Sov already knows what Brother Vance is going to say…, havea listen to Chapter 6, beguiled and see what you think.
“I've discovered something quite disturbing, yet wholly revelatory.
As you know, we've been running the Trialsfor some time now.
On Mercury there exists a spire, one of many, that we've called the Lighthouse.
Inside, a two-toned note resonates wheneverGuardian death occurs.
It's a strange and almost imperceptible sound, but I hear it as clearly as I hear your voice today.
The tone tells me…””…that Guardians have dangerous potential within them.
” “My Queen…” “Why do you think I allow you to stay here? You believe you have occupied my Reef withoutmy knowledge of the studies you conduct?” “How did you…” Vance was awestruck.
“We know this truth.
We are Awoken.
We are balance.
Brother Vance, I would advise you to finishup your Trials with a defter hand and to destroy all records of your findings.
You've stumbled onto something too grand inscale for your comprehension.
Keep this to yourself.
” …”I cannot offer you any clarity.
The Universe will reveal all when the timecomes.
There is, however, something you can do forme.
” “Yes, anything.
” Vance was desperate to get back in her goodgraces.
She leaned in, whispering near his ear.
“When you see our friend…” The queen basically says that Guardians havedangerous potential within them… but I don’t really know what that means… is it likesaying everyone has good and evil, everyone has light and dark, like the Awoken.
I am not really sure.
The other really interesting thing is thatMara gives Brother Vance a message for Osiris, which will be revealed later.
So, Brother Vance sort of listens to the queen.
He does not stop his research, but he doesbecome more secretive about it.
While continuing his research through thetrials of Osiris, the red legion attacks, and guardians lose their light.
At the exact moment that Guardians lose theirlight, a team participating in the trials od osiris kill a guardian, meaning a finaldeath.
The final death of a guardian produces a differenttone from the lighthouse.
It reads, The Traveler's Light has been suppressed by Dominous Ghaul and his insurrection of theTower.
The timing was impeccable and offered me aninsight I hadn't previously considered viable.
Many lives were lost today in a barbarousskirmish across the Last City, but none as important as the life lost in our Trial.
I believe Guardians have adopted the term”final death” for these such instances.
A competitor was defeated at the precise momentthe Light was stripped from him, their Ghost destroyed in the concussive blast from a pulsegrenade.
Then, the most marvelous phenomenon occurred:The Lighthouse spoke to me, but changed its key.
A D-sharp minor, if I'm not mistaken.
Previously, I had been presented with onlya harmonious two-toned note; the implications, as I made clear to Queen Mara Sov, could notbe overlooked.
Today, I am presented with a defining notethat substantiates my theory and validates everything our founder stood for.
When I speak now, everyone should listen, for I alone hold the truth.
As it stands, I have no further use for theTrials and will be discontinuing the tournament indefinitely.
I have what I came for.
All I need now is council.
So, it seems like this confirms Brother vance’stheory… which we don’t really know what that theory is, but Brother Vance now believesall he needs to do is speak with Osiris.
Unfortunately, when Osiris returns… he isless than impressed.
Have a listen to Chapter 8 Idolartry.
It reads, He'd often fantasize what it would be like to meet the fabled Osiris.
He had imagined the exchange so many times… “Brother Vance, I'm indebted to your servitude.
You have solved one of the greatest mysteriesof our age.
Your dedication, wisdom, and passion inspireme and reinvigorate my bourn.
” “No, great Osiris.
It is you who inspired me to become the manyou see before you.
Together we can change the world.
” This was anything but that moment.
“You've wrapped your mind around an idea ofyour own making.
I have always tolerated this fawning 'movement'of yours, but this is a step too far.
” Osiris seethed.
Brother Vance was awestruck.
He stared blankly at Osiris, unsure of whathe could say to quell his anger and dissolve his frustration.
“What I have discovered…””…is dangerous enough to destroy every man, woman, and child in existence.
You're meddling with forces outside your grasp, “Osiris reprimanded.
“I warn you here and now, remove yourselffrom this Lighthouse.
Find a simple life.
Start a family.
Write music.
Leave Mercury and this fool's errand behind.
” As Osiris walks away, Brother Vance rushesto catch up and pass on the message from the queen… AND it has something to do with the seed thatOsiris stole.
Reference to the metallic seed comes fromthe web lore, which I have not covered on the channel yet.
So hold tight, but have a listen.
“Osiris! Wait!” Brother Vance came vaulting out ofthe Lighthouse at breakneck pace.
“Here we go.
” “Hush, Sagira.
” “Queen Mara Sov… wanted me… to tell you…” Vance struggled to catch his breath.
“She wanted me to tell you, 'plant the seed.
'” If you have theories on the seed… pleaselet me know.
Now… the last entry in this lore book.
.
I am not quite sure what is happening.
It seems like Brother Vance makes a new lighthouse, i.
e.
the lighthouse we see is not the lighthouse that was making the communication tones whenguardians die, but I am not quite sure.
It then appears that Brother Vance catchesa glimpse of the future after he creates a “pocket forest” from simulation seedsand vex architecture.
In my opinion, it seems like he sees a pyramidship invasion and the second collapse.
Have a listenSomething new |and so very old| emerged, brother to a shriveling star: Anangular |hungering patient yawning deep| shadow reached across Mercury.
Uncounted |known| spires fell under its grasp |with uniform relief|.
Dulcet tones brought low under lightless breadthand the weight of dark |salvation| hummed beneath the shadow.
Their echoes spilled out |awakened| and flowed over crumbling spires |in conversation|.
One singular spec of illumination blinkedinto being, |an end| seen by none, and then |many| spread as the shadow did.
The old Lighthouse |spire's collective| beamed |rose| and flared as shadow overtook it |to meet the underbelly|.
Vance |the implement| could hear |their inspired voices| weeping, not with tears, but in the |voracious| low |ceremonial| hum he had come to associate with death.
He closed his eyes |and saw what was to come|.
This day had many names.
None would suffice.
And that is where the lore book ends… bitof a cliffhanger… and we still don’t quite understand the purpose of the lighthouse andwhy it connects with Guardian death and light.
Hopefully it will be explained in the nearfuture.
If you would like to support the video andcannot think of a comment, you can leave the phrase, Trials of Osiris, to represent thereal reason why the Trials was created.
As usual, it has been a pleasure, this ismyelin games.
peace.
