April always has an amazing omelet with all kinds of different deliciousvegetables and everything and bob has amazing pancakes he loves his pancakesand the thing on top of that is you got incredible atmosphere it's a beautifullittle courtyard where it's at and then on top of it all the cost is super cheapfor us to all eat incredible breakfast this morning it was about 15 bucks socan't beat that especially for the quality of food the atmosphere or thegreat weather it's the best so stick with us on our next adventure talk toyou guys later we decided to be a little adventurousthis morning and go to the next town over called San Luis Soyatian it's a littlebit past it's about 30 minutes from where we're at here in jocotepec and jocotepec is not very touristy so we're expecting to probablybe the only Gringo's out there looking for a fun day we're gonna try to catchsome food go check out the malecon on the water we've heard that part of themeaning of the name is to do with the fabric to getting in touch with the locals and seeing howeverybody does it and of course it's super cheap for all four of us to take ascenic fun 30 minute bus ride it was a whopping dollar that's right just 20pesos so we're at the malecon here in San Louis and we're looking to do alittle adventuring and just exploring and trying to find some lunch first andthen we're gonna go through the town and see if plan at a place called Casa de latostada they were quite typical for the littlelocal places around here didn't have a whole lot ready for lunch they were kindof almost surprised that we showed up but they ended up making us somesincronizadas for me and Bob which are kind of like quesadillas they hadham and cheese in them and grilled together that really delicious I'venever tried anything like that before and he actually liked it so that wasawesome for him April had some amazing eggs of vegetables and peppers andeverything in it and she loved that and it was really good we had a couple ofbeers and we had a little dessert thing and all kinds of different extras and itwas still roughly about eight bucks so super cheap really delicious greatlocation right here on the water super nice peoplethe abuela grandma lady came in and saw the little kids and wanted to hug littlebaby Kai and just super sweet people we got a really good time alright so we just got back to JoCo andwe had a fun day the beachwhere we're gonna be next we didn't find them but no big deal we had a good timeand we got to literally got to do all that adventuring for two dollars worththe bus ride so can't be that had a fun day and stick around for the nextadventure bye for now this week has been kind of hard as faras being here in Madrid and away from family last week was my brother'sbirthday and I wasn't able to be there in person I wasn't even able to chatwith him on the phone because of the time difference and and our Wi-Fi isbeing really spotty right now is here so it's been difficult tocommunicate with friends and family back home and that's frustrating it really islike we rely on Wi-Fi so much just to keep those relationships this weekend mydad is also on an annual fall camping trip and it's been a year since I'vebeen able to go on that just because of being in Arizona but I don't know thisweek this year I feel like I missed it even more so than ever before and partof it I think is that Spain has a fall season the trees are changing colors andpeople are having campfires in their backyard and that sort of fall feelingis in the air so I think because I'm feeling like fall I feel like visitingfamily in Indiana because Arizona really doesn't have a fall so it just remindsme of Indiana it reminds me of my family and makes me miss some more but this isa really great season for us and I'm learning a lot right now we're trying toreally stay positive through everything and know that we're learning so mucheach day that we're here and it's gonna be worth it plus it's gonna go by sofast so we're just trying to enjoy every moment Saturday morning we're off to the marketto pick up some local produce at a reduced price and it's my first time soready we just went through rush-hour trafficin Madrid with their bicycles which is my first time but I love the Spaniardsdo stuff every every time we cross a crosswalk so that's greatthe cars all stop for us but we successfully transporting our self aroundthe city through the mall and back.
yeah we don't need no cars got our bikes here inthere fueled by cheese, wine, various tapas etc.
I'm not gonna lie my butthurts a little bit here's our average walk home from thegrocery store baggage in hand, and a pastry for the walk.
we are on our way to an event calledtapa pies, we have our trusty guide book here and Brooks what is this eventall about well Madrid has a lot of differentneighborhoods or Barrios and one of them is called lava pies and this event isall about tapas or where the little snacks that typically are brought outwith drinks so lava pies mixed with tapas equals tapa pies and what this is isI think around 95 close to a hundred different restaurants around thisneighborhoods not across the city but in this to any little area spend some timecreating and offering their signature tapa or a snack and then this book itcontains all of the different ones that they will have and so you can flipthrough it and see where they're gonna be and what they offer and there's a mapand so you walk around you for a very small fee for a euro 50 try thesedifferent tapas and then you can go online and vote annual so apparentlyit's been going on for a while and I'm sure it's a favorite of many peoplesprobably going to be a favorite of all it should be fun all right we just had African fusion, numero dos.
flavor alone I'm gonna give it an 8 out of 10 ambiance of the restaurant, now we're getting close to the 9 out of 10 range.
brooks which one was your favorite so far? thisone a potato with it on top of the toapas so probably if your going for calories forEuro this one but the first one the flavor for sure we just got back from tapa pies andwe are stuffed.
we had a lot of delicious food tonight eleven different tapas orthose snacks shamefully oh yeah Brooks which one wasyour favorite there was one they just called the placewas called Africa fusion my name is apparently a typical dish in Senegalwhich is where what inspired this this restaurant where mostly they're from and there'sreally good at rice and chicken and some sort of sauce and delicious simple butdelicious yeah it was really good I think myfavorite was the little like cheeseburger knockoff that was like agreen patty on the inside was hummus and a cucumberthere was no patty, the was a cucumber right exactly is yeah but itwas elevated on a toothpick and then like a potato is a little stand I thinkwe had 10 that were really delicious and one that was really awful so I like Iwant you to look at this picture and it looks beautifulI was like a little cappuccino the croissant here number 58 yeah so wethought oh it's gonna be a little croissant with a cappuccino and yeah itwas not it was cream of a plant eggplant cream of eggplant which probably is okaybut not when you're expecting cappuccino they whipped it up and liquefied it itwas more and the croissant had some sort of fish pate on it yeah so but I thinkthe worst part is that you bite into it and you weren't expecting anything likethat and what was funny was the chef was right there in front of us and we didn'treally notice it until after we took a biteso immediately went from like shock on our faces to like oh it's good good jobyeah smiling with a mouthful.
it's our fault we didn't read what was in it.
all in all this wasa new experience the neighborhood where this takes place is a super diverse arealots of cultures here kind of a melting pot of Madrid if you will and it wasreally neat to be taste these different foods from I guess around theworld obviously there was some that have a very Spanish flavor to them but Ireally need I can't think of anything that's like this in America maybe foodtruck conventions but just the idea that you go get a little something do acompany whatever you get as a drink there's an ideaI think tapas originally comes from having something to go with your drinkso if you go to a restaurant and you order a glass of wine and a meal you'renot going to get a tapas most likely but if you just order a glass of wine ora beer and then they'll bring out a tapas of some sort which is just like a littlebite to eat whether the potato chips or olives or some sort of little salad they had kinda neat they have that tradition? sure.
well it'll happen again next year so if you're in town go and check it out ontapa pies.
