hey guys how is everyone doing we are athome staying safe and healthy as we hope you are too and so we thought we'd takethis week to show you something that we get a lot of questions about and that isabout the camera and other gear that we take with us whenever we travel so let'scheck out what is in our camera bag hello and welcome if you're new to ourchannel my name is Steven and I am one half of finding altitude we are ahusband and wife who love to travel together and document all of ouradventures if you're new here we would love it if you subscribe to our channelso you don't miss out on any of our future adventures so first let's talkabout our camera body we use the sony a7 mark 2 we purchased this camera at thebeginning of 2019 right before our trip to New Zealand because we wantedsomething that could take both good photos and videos and it's done both ofthose really well it's been our main camera for the last year and a half atravel and it's taken all the photos that you see in our Instagram as well asall the videos on our YouTube channel it's a nice camera with a full-framesensor 24 megapixel photos and 1080p video nowone of the biggest downsides with this camera is a battery life we typically gothrough at least two of these in a full day while traveling the newer Sonycameras like the a7 3 or the a 6400 have much better batteries but for now we'reokay with just travelling around with like five of these now on to lensessince we do travel so much we've opted to use zoom lenses because it gives us awider focal range without having to carry around so many lenses so startingon the wider end we have the Tamron 17 to 28 F 2.
8 lens this is our newest lensand quickly becoming our favorite for video work it's great for vloggingbecause you get a lot more of yourself in the frame and you don't have to holdout the camera so far but also for videos it's fantastic forlandscape photos especially once you stop it down to around F six point threeto f/8 it's really sharp and it pretty much lives in our camera all the timenow it's pretty small and relatively lightweight and it's an internal zoommeaning that as you zoom in the lens isn't actually getting any longer allthese things make it a super capable lens and something that's on our camerapretty much all the time not to mention it's about a third of the price of thesony g master equivalent next up we have the Tamron 28 275 which for a long timewas the only lens we were using it's the only lens we use in all of thePhilippines and Norway and it's just been really great for us at 28 it's niceand wide for landscapes and you can do some vlogging but it's not ideal andthen at 75 it's just really nice to have that extra reach I've been lugginghaving these two Tamron lenses Tamron went ahead and match the filterthreading size so that we don't have to switch different filters or use step-uprings when switching the lenses it's nice to have the matching set and forwhat they are they are a nice budget option for Sony cameras Tamron justannounced the zoom lens which I believe is a 70 to 180 and will probably beinvesting in that in the future lastly we have something that's a littledifferent it is a Canon FD 50 millimeter F onepoint eight lens now if you're not super familiar with adapting vintage lenses toyour modern camera I highly recommend looking into it because I purchased thislens at a thrift store for five dollars and then you just have to buy an adapterbecause obviously Canon lenses wouldn't work on Sony cameras but this adapterwas only ten dollars meaning that for fifteen dollars I have a beautiful lensand although you have to manually focus with it because it's not electronicallycommunicating with the I think that's also a great thing tolearn get used to manual focusing because it gives you a little morecontrol over what you're doing so that's the last of our lenses the other camerathat we use is the GoPro Hero 7 black we got this right before we went to NewZealand and we have used it so much we really love this thing the video qualitymay not be as good as our Sony and the pictures aren't really typically aren'tthat great but it's a great little action camera it goes underwater ittypically lives almost all of its time on this really cheap selfie stick we goton Amazon and it was great in the Philippines going to all those Falls andsnorkeling basically any time that we're in a scenario where we don't feelcomfortable carrying around our bigger camera with us we have this little guywe also have a few extra batteries really awesome little battery chargerfor it where the batteries sit and flush inside and so you just have this cubestore in your extra batteries really nice the last camera we travel aroundwith is obviously our drone the DJI Mavic air because it is just so small wecan't really afford to carry around a drone that has its own big case so weneeded something that I could just fit in my backpack and this is perfect forthat it captures great quality video pictures everything we could want andall you need is just this the controller and I recommend at least having oneextra battery because each one only lasts about 15 minutes up in the air andwe typically run through both in a single day while we're traveling we alsohave this set of ND filters for our drone these are bipolar pro there are NDfilters with polarisers and then which allows us to fly and harsher sunlightand still get nice cinematic footage by keeping our shutter speed down next upis our microphone now I had watched so many videos of youtubers talking abouthow important audio quality was that you should almost worry more about youraudio quality than your actual video quality and I sort of learned the hardway how true that is when we first started wehad purchased a pretty cheap on-camera shotgun microphone that just soundedterrible and we lost a lot of good footage because we were lied on thatmicrophone and it did not deliver so a few months ago I decided to upgrade ourmicrophone to a deity be mic'd III Pro which I just have to say it soundsfantastic it's living right up here just out of frame and I've used it for all ofour videos over the past six months or so and I think it sounds great I can'ttrust enough the importance of audio quality just buy a nice microphone nowand you won't regret it next up we have tripods now to startwith we picked up this ridiculous looking thing mainly because I lovewalking around places and holding out my camera on this and having everyone stareat me because I just love all the attention in the worldno Joby Gorillapod what you've probably seen a lot of creators used to vlog it'snice you can hold it out you can also use it as a tripod and attach it towhatever you want whether it's whether it's post like this or trees or whateverand just use it as a tripod wherever you're going we love traveling aroundwith this yeah it looks kind of silly but it works great as a tripod when youdon't really want to travel around with a full-size heavier tripod speaking ofwhich the camera is currently sitting on our main tripod which is a Bond photo be690 a which has worked pretty well for me over the past year or so however theball head did just break on me so I'm not sure if I'd recommend that I want totalk about some of the accessories that we use and highly recommends first offis a camera strap but not just any camera strap a while back I picked upthis peak design leash strap and if you notice on my sony camera it has theselittle red dongles hanging off the side these little dongles live on the cameraand this strap is genius whenever you want to hook it up it just slidesin there like that and pops into place I love this strap because I don't alwayslike having a strap on the camera I like just holding it in my hands a lot butoccasionally I'll throw the strap on in order to get some smoother footage andalso will throw it on if we're hiking or something so that's why I picked up thisstrap so that it's easier to slide on and off because if you're just using thestrap that came with the Sony camera good luck taking it on and off all thetime next up our filters if you don't know much about using filters with yourcamera lens I'd recommend doing some research or we can make some tutorialson it if that's something you'd be interested in we use both a variable NDfilter for video work as well as long exposure photos and a circular polarizerso a few months ago I picked up this new variable ND filter from K&F conceptwhich was a more budget-friendly option on Amazon this is an md-82 128 and I gotthis because our old ND filter started to have some X or Kross effects on therewhich is just something that happens on cheaper options because of how thesework but this one hasn't seem to have any issues yet it looks good at a cameraand I haven't had any footage ruined yet because of it unlike a lot of ourfootage from the Philippines watch it's just unusable now now last up is the bagnow if I had an unlimited budget and an unlimited amount of storage space inhere I'd probably have a few bags because I had a bit of a gear problembut eventually I came across the bag smart Oregon now I picked up this bagbecause after a year of using an Amazon basics camera bag which was great itheld all my equipment nicely but I was just looking for something that had afew extra features and could hold a little bit more stuff and so I picked upthis bag because it had a roll top it had side access for my cameras as wellas back access and just has a few extra little things that I was looking for ina bag and on top of all that it was about a third of the price of theequivalent bags I was looking at so I didn't really see a whole lot out thereabout this camera bag and so if you'reinterested in more of a detailed review of this bag smart Oregon let me know inthe comments down below and that can put something together and that's it that'sall the camera gear that we use when we travel if you have questions aboutanything I'll leave links to all the products I talked about in thedescription below but also feel free to leave me any questions in the commentsthank you so much for watching be sure to LIKE and subscribe stay
